Abuja, July 28, 2017 (NAN) A Gudu Upper Area Court in Abuja on Friday sentenced 19-year-old Isah Shaibu to one- month imprisonment for being in possession of a mobile phone that was not his.

Shaibu, of Waru village in Abuja was convicted of being in possession of property suspected to be stolen.

The Upper Area Court Judge, Mr Umar Kagarko, passed the sentence after the convict pleaded guilty.

Kagarko, however, gave the convict an option of N6, 000 fine and ordered that the recovered mobile phone be handed over to its owner within six months.

“If the owner of the phone is not traced within six months, it should be sold in public auction and the proceeds be paid into the account of the Federal Government,’’ he said.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Mr Joshua Ayanna, had told the court that the convict was arrested by the police on April 12.

He said the arrest was made during their investigations into the alleged killing of one Dr Ibrahim Kashim in Waru community.

“The convict was found with a Samsung Galaxy mobile phone, which he could not give a reasonable explanation of how he came in possession of it,’’ Ayanna said. (NAN)
