Campaign

Abuja, April 1, 2018 (NAN) The Abuja Chapter of Maitama Central Rotary Club has joined in the campaign to kick out Polio from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The President of the Chapter, Dr Olubunmi Wilson, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja.
She said that the club had embarked on immunisation against polio in the Maitama area to curb the menace of the scourge.
According to her, the club is immunising children for polio and measles and also educating people about what Rotary is all about and the selfless services the organization renders to humanity.
She noted that the Maitama Rotary Club Chapter of the FCT was working hard to ensure that it kicked polio out from Nigeria.
Wilson told NAN that the immunisation commenced from the FCT High Court Maitama, adding that the response was unimpressive.
She called on parents and guardians to come out and immunise their children against polio and measles, adding that this would reduce the menace of polio in the country.
She added that it was imperative to sensitise the residents of Maitama and FCT generally on the dangers polio and measles posed to the country.
“The club as an international foundation has done a lot for communities in Abuja to create awareness, give foodstuff and we go to villages to empower them. We even teach them how to farm to make money.
“This polio destroys the child so if they see where immunisation is taking place they should take their children there,’’ she said.
Wilson stressed that the rotary club would do whatever was needed to help stamp out polio in the country.
She maintained that immunisation was very important and over the years vaccines have prevented countless cases of diseases and saved millions of lives. (NAN)
