Lagos, July 27, 2018 (NAN) The maiden Global Aviation Gender Summit will seek to advocate for and advance gender equality and empowerment of women in the industry, the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) has said.

ICAO said on Friday on its website that the summit, to be hosted by the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) would hold in Cape Town, South Africa.

The summit, scheduled to hold from Aug. 8 to Aug. 10, is to mobilise the global aviation community to accelerate gender equality.

It will be co-organised by ICAO in collaboration with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

“The summit will mobilise the global air transport community in identifying concrete actions to accelerate gender equality in a highly specialised sector and in establishing partnerships to support the coordination and implementation of these actions,’’ ICAO said.

It added that high officials from Education, Labour, External Affairs or portfolios related to gender and diversity were invited.

“Directors-General of civil aviation, senior officials and decision makers in civil aviation authorities, airports, air navigation service providers, airline industry, aviation associations, UN and international organisations, academia and training institutions are welcome to attend.

“The participation of both women and men is critical in achieving a successful and impactful summit.

“The Summit will be mainly conducted in English. Interpretation services to all other ICAO official languages — Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish will be provided,’’ it said.

“Registration for the Summit is free for all participants. Participants must register online prior to their arrival in Cape Town.

“Space is limited, and therefore registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Early registration is recommended due to the high number of expected delegates,’’ the world aviation body said. (NAN)
