Lagos, Feb. 8, 2017 (NAN) Eze Obinna, manager Bet Naija Lottery, who allegedly stole his employer’s N178,000, was on Wednesday brought before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court.
The accused, 20, who resides at 7, Ladega St., Alaba-oro, Ajegunle, a Lagos suburb, is standing trial on a two- count charge of conversion and stealing.
Prosecutor Tony Elibe told the court that the accused stole and converted the money to personal use.
According to him, the offences were committed between August 2016 to January 2017 at No. 30, Alaba-Oro Road, Ajegunle.
Elibe said the complainant, Job Kevin, an agent of Bet Naija, employed the accused as an operator/manager.
“The accused was in charge of the account and remitting daily sales to the company’s account.
“Instead of remitting the sales he made during the period amounting to N178,000, he stole the money and converted it to his own use.
“All efforts to recover the money from him were unsuccessful.”
The offences contravened Section 278 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 prescribes a three-year imprisonment for offenders.
The accused, however, denied the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Titus Abolarinwa, granted the accused N200,000 bail and adjourned the case to March 8 for mention. (NAN)
