Immunisation

Sandamu (Katsina State), April 24, 2017 (NAN) The Sandamu Local Government in Katsina State, on Monday said it had targeted no fewer than 52,000 children in the ongoing polio immunisation exercise in the area.
Hajiya Sakina Zango, the council’s director of Primary Health Care (PHC), made this disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sandamu on Monday.
She said that the council had taken delivery of enough vaccines from the state primary health care agency and engaged 89 trained community vaccinators and 11 Focal Persons.
Zango said the four-day exercise would be conducted across 11 electoral wards in the area, stressing that vaccinators would go from house to house and school to school for a wide and effective coverage.
The director stated that the exercise, which started on April 23 would end on April 27.
She said the council had increased Routine Immunisation Centres (RIC) from seven to 10 centres, and that vaccinators had been asked to conduct immunisation against measles, meningitis and other childhood killer diseases.
Zango stated that the area had achieved 100 per cent compliance with immunisation, due to public enlightenment; through radio campaigns and the efforts of traditional and religious leaders.
Alhaji Sale Isa, the Sole Administrator of the council, lauded the people of the area for their cooperation and understanding, which led to the success of the exercise.
He called on parents to sustained the tempo, stressing,”we will continue to support immunisation exercises so as to promote healthy and productive living among our people’’.
Isa called on parents to avail their children the opportunity of immunisation against polio and other killer diseases.
According to him, the council will continue to carry on with the exercise until polio is totally eradicated from the area. (NAN)
