LG in Katsina State gets 25,500 measles vaccines

Daura (Katsina), Nov. 17, 2017 (NAN) The Sandamu Local Government Area of Katsina State, has taken delivery of 25,500 measles vaccines for the immunisation of children against measles across its 10 electoral wards.

The council’s Director of Health, Hajiya Sakina Zango, made this disclosure during the flag off of the measles vaccination at the council secretariat on Friday.

She said that the council was targeting to immunise no fewer than 22,000 children during the six-day exercise.

Zango said “we have formed 43 teams which included traditional rulers, health personnel and other stakeholders for the exercise”.

She added that the acting chairman of the council, Alhaji Sada Rawayau, had assured the people that the LG and State Governments had provided the needed logistics to ensure the success of the exercise.

The director warned parents against rejection of the vaccines, saying “we have never recorded instances of rejection of vaccination or immunisation in this area”.

Zango, who expressed confidence in the programme’s success, noted that the Local Government had been lauded by UNICEF for recording compliance with immunisation and vaccination.

She said that the UNICEF had constructed a befitting cold chain store in the council area in recognition of its compliance with routine rules guiding health programmes in the area.

In a related development, the management of Maiadua Local Government, has stated that it was targeting no fewer than 38,620 children for the measles vaccination.

Alhaji Nasiru Muazu, the council’s Director of Primary Health care told newsmen in Maiadua on Friday, that the council had taken delivery of 42,630 vaccines.

Muazu said the council authority had constituted 48 teams to conduct and monitor the exercise across the 10 electoral wards in the area.

He disclosed that a fixed point had been erected along the exit international borders of Kongolam to take care of immigrant children coming into Nigeria.
