Okordia (Bayelsa), Jan. 20, 2017 (NAN) Mr Noble Bunafa, the Chairman, Okordia Community Development Committee, has urged the Bayelsa Government to extend its infrastructural development plans to people in the area.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Okordia, Yenagoa Local Government Area, Bunafa said the importance of infrastructure to human existence could not be over-emphasised.

Bunafa said that Okordia community, notable for agriculture, was still struggling to get modern market, good road, and steady power supply, among others.

He said that if good road network and market could be constructed in the area, transportation of farm produce would be easier for the people.

“We also lack potable water, health centre and standard primary school for our children.

“Our people are well known for farming; but we are not finding it easy due to inadequate government support to the community as agriculture cannot succeed where there are no roads and market.

“The only accessible market around us is at Zarama community; we are appealing to the government to help us.

“Our people are industrious and we produce fish, plantain, corn, vegetable and other food crops.”

On potable water, Bunafa said the community depended on the river and buying of sachet water on daily basis.

“It’s been very challenging in view of the current economy of the country.

“On behalf of my people, I appeal to government to extend its developmental plans to our people,” Bunafa said.

NAN reports that the state government has embarked on infrastructural development in the state, including connecting the three senatorial zones in the state through roads and bridges. (NAN)
