Omu-Aran (Kwara) Feb. 27, 2017 (NAN) Mr Kazeem Adekanye, Chairman Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara, has urged youths in the country to be reputable agents in the fight against corruption and other vices.

Adekanye made the call on Monday in Omu-Aran when officials of Omu-Aran Development Association (ODA) visited him at the council’s Secretariat.

Adekanye, who is also the President National Youth Council, Kwara State chapter, said there was need for youths to key into the Federal Government`s anti-corruption fight, irrespective of their religious, cultural and political affiliations.

The council boss, however, described Nigerian youths as versatile, resourceful and possessing the capacity and potential to ensure the desired transformation envisioned for the country.

He, therefore, stressed that youths should be actively involved in the anti-corruption crusade for future benefits.

“I think our youths have specific roles in ensuring the necessary sensitisation and awareness on the anti-corruption crusade.

“The explosion in the usage of social media is one veritable platform for ensuring a wider publicity of government activities in this regard,” he said.

Adekanye maintained that only a synergy among all tiers of government, the nation`s anti-corruption agents and community leaders could assist in achieving the desired objective.

He said the administration’s “Agric Connect“ initiative was geared toward attracting youths and the women folk to embrace agriculture as a profession and vocation.

He added that such intervention for youth involvement in the fight against corrupt tendencies should actually start from the grassroots.

He stressed that the association whose membership comprised community leaders, should ensure the provision of enabling environment.

According to him, the council’s present administration is investing resources to tackle the menace of youth restiveness and other anti-social vices across communities in the state.

This, he said, was aimed at attracting meaningful development to the area.

Mr Bisi Adeyemi, President of the association said they were in the council on a familiarisation visit.

He said the association`s visit to other stakeholders in the state was to ensure a workable partnership for community development.

Adeyemi, who is also the Akeweje of Omu-Aran, assured that the association would ensure the desired socio-economic development envisioned for the people of the community.

He urged the council to give attention to the issue of rural road network, safe environment and human capital development as catalyst for community development. (NAN)
