Legislature lauds FG for taking over PHC centre in Nasarawa

Lafia, June 16, 2017 (NAN) The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has commended the Federal Government for taking over Gadabuke Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) to address the health challenges of residents.
The Speaker of the assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, made the commendation on Friday during the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Keffi, and the state Ministry of Health.
Abdullahi, represented by Alhaji Saidu Galadima (APC-Toto/Gadabuke), said that with the MoU, Gadabuke community would access medical needs that were not obtainable in the PHC before.
He also assured people of the state that the assembly would provide a legislation that would facilitate the smooth operation of medical facilities in the state for the benefit of citizens.
“First and foremost, I want to commend the State Government and the Federal Government through FMC, Keffi, for signing the MoU and the formal handing over of Gadabuke PHC to the federal government.
“I believe with the take-over of the facilities by the federal government, the centre will be equipped with more modern health facilities to better the lives of the rural dwellers and Nigerians in terms of medical needs.
“Ours is to complement government efforts by providing a legislation that will encourage partners in the provision of healthcare services to our people because a healthy nation is a wealthy nation,” he said.
He restated the assembly’s commitment to continue to enact laws that have direct bearing on the lives of the people.
Also speaking, Dr Joshua Giyan, the Medical Director of FMC, Keffi, promised to abide by the terms and conditions as contained in the MoU.
Giyan, represented by the Head of Clinical Service of the hospital, Dr Luka Samuel, said that they would do their best to provide quality service to the people.
The medical director assured that they would continue to initiate good policies and programmes to better the standard of living of staff and patients.
Earlier, Dr Daniel Iya, the state Commissioner for Health, said that with the signing of the MoU, the staff of the centre would also be absorbed into the Federal Government workforce. (NAN)
