Karu (Nasarawa State), Jan. 5, 2017 (NAN) A member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Hashimu Jibrin, has appealed to residents to avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse along Mararaba/Karu highway.
Jibrin (APC), representing Karu/Gitata state constituency and the Chairman, House Committee on Lands and Survey gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Karu on Thursday.
He said the appeal became necessary to ensure environmental cleanliness and the general well being of the people of the area.
“The Nasarawa State government under Gov. Tanko Al-Makura administration is doing its best in keeping the environment clean.
“It is also the responsibility of everybody to complement government efforts by keeping his or her environment clean.
“It is often said that a healthy nation is a wealthy nation, it is on this note that the government and stakeholders are always advising the people on the need to maintain personal and environmental hygiene in the country.
“I want to appeal to my constituents, especially the resident of Masaka, Karu and Mararaba, to aviod indiscriminate dumping of refuse along Mararaba/Karu highway considering its health implication on human lives.
“The indiscriminate dumping of refuse is not good for the health of the people, especially those people plying the road and even the residents because of its harmful effects on their health,” Jibrin said.
The legislator advised his constituent to stop dumping of refuse in gutters, markets and other places indiscriminately.
He said gutters could be a breeding ground for mosquitoes which was dangerous to human health which could lead to the spread of communicable disease.
Jibrin reaffirmed his commitment to continue to initiate more people-oriented projects in his constituency in order to improve the standard of living of his constituents and Nigerians.
“I will continue to ensure quality representation as well as initiating projects that have direct bearing on the lives of my constituents and the state and Nigerians at large,” he said.
Jibrin called on the people of the state and Nigerians to continue to support President Muhammadu Buhari and Gov. Al-Makura’s administration to enable them succeed. (NAN)
