Kano, Jan. 12, 2017 (NAN) The Coordinator of the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria in Kano State, Alhaji Abubakar Umar, says the council received 74 criminal and civil cases from October to December 2016.
Umar told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Kano that out of the total number of cases received, 40 were criminal cases, while 34 were civil.
According to him, the council has resolved 35 cases comprising 26 civil and nine criminal cases, while others were still ongoing in courts.
Umar said that some complainants preferred to resolve their cases without going to court.
He said that the council offered free services and advice to those who could not afford to pay for legal services.
The coordinator said that most of the civil cases were on inheritance, marriage, debt recovery, land disputes, among others. (NAN)
