Enugu, Jan. 31, 2018 (NAN) Mrs Perpetua Aniofogbu, the Head of Technical Education Department, Enugu State College of Education, Technical, has called on government to increase funding of technical colleges to achieve better results.

Aniofobgu made the call in interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Wednesday.

She said if more funds were made available for technical colleges, the teachers and students would be exposed to modern technologies through training in all the technical courses.

‘’Our teachers needed training for the impartation of knowledge to students as this would help to acquire new knowledge in various technical courses.

‘’Enough funding would help the colleges to do away with obsolete equipment because technical schools in Nigeria are in  need of modern equipment in order to meet international standards,” she said.

The lecturer added that training the students in modern technology would make them to be self-employed and as well be employers of labour.

“Graduates of technical education are not trained to be job seekers but rather to be self-employed and as well to employ others,” she said.

She warned that if the colleges were not well funded, by next seven years the country might not have grounded technical teachers.

Aniofogbu advised youths seeking admission to higher institutions to enrol in technical colleges to enable them to acquire knowledge and skills for self-reliance. (NAN)
