Ilorin, Aug. 24, 2018  (NAN) An Ilorin-based legal practitioner, Mr Bashir Usman, has advised the Federal Government to reinvigorate and empower the National Film and  Video  Censors   Board to function optimally.

Usman told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin on Friday that doing this would enable the board to ensure decency in artistic content in the country.

He expressed regrets  that the commercial genre of music now being promoted  in the country exposes  Nigerians to vulgar contents and obscene images.

According to him, the development is having a negative impact on moral values and behaviour of Nigerians, especially the youths.

“All artistic contents must be screened before they enter into the public domain. Censors board must come to the rescue in order not to corrupt the society.

“Western culture, ICT and globalisation have polluted our rich African culture as we copy everything foreign, ” he said.

Usman also urged media outfits to desist from promoting derogatory contents that demean moral ethos and encourage illicit acts in the country.

“I will urge parents,  media houses, educational and religious institutions to also salvage the situation by promoting the use of the rich Nigerian culture for harmony and development in the country,” he said.

He also called on Nigerians  to appreciate the originality and entertaining content which local music promotes. (NAN)
