Ilorin, March 2, 2017 (NAN) An Ilorin-based legal practitioner, Mr Sesan Olaoye, has called on the Federal Government to up its support for the physically, mentally challenged persons in the country.
Olaoye told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin on Thursday that the physically challenged needed more care from the government.
He said that there was little provision for the needs of those physically and mentally challenged members of the society as there was no transport system and a well equipped building to shelter them.
The legal practitioner explained that social amenities were been plan as if these fortunate members did not matter, adding that they constituted a significant portion of the society.
“Unlike in Nigeria, the physically and mentally challenged are being treated very decent in the advance countries as they never alienate or make them to feel bad of their situations.
“They treat them as God and always consider them first before others. Its time we emulate them and make them feel relevant to the society.
“It is not only government responsibility to support this people, even the public must stop avoiding them and treat them like their own by giving them gifts and play with them to make them happy,” he said.
Olaoye, therefore, urged government at all levels to factor in the needs of physically and mentally challenged members of the society, saying they need to be care for by people around them. (NAN)
