Zaria (Kaduna State), Jan. 29, 2017 (NAN) Dr Abbas Tajuddeen, member representing Zaria Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives has trained 1,020 people in different skills and trades, to enable them to become self-reliant.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the graduation ceremony was held at the premises of the “Abbas Tajuddeen Initiative ICT/Skills Acquisition Centre,” Tudun-Wada, Zaria, Kaduna State on Sunday.

Speaking at the ceremony, Alhaji Uba Sani, Political Adviser to Gov. Nasiru El- Rufa’i lauded the efforts of the Legislator for changing the lifestyles of the graduands.

Sani, who was represented by Alhaji Ibrahim Shehu-Haske, charged the graduating trainees to make judicious use of the knowledge acquired to enhance their family lives.

He appealed to other elected officers to emulate the kind gesture of the sponsor of the centre to change the society for the better and give the electorate a sense of belonging.

In his speech, the Chairman, All Progressive Congress (APC), Zaria Local Government, Alhaji Shu’aibu Abubakar-Haske, said the lawmaker had lifted the flag of the party higher.

“This is one of the reasons why we encouraged you to re-elect Abbas Tajuddeen for a second term. We are proud of him because he had delivered and he will continue to deliver.”

The facilitator of the centre, Hajiya Ai’shatu Bala, popularly called Hajiya Sarauniya, said the graduands had been taught 16 different trades at the centre.

She said the graduands were trained in different trades like computer maintenance and application, soap making, air-freshener production, bag making, knitting and sewing, amongst others.

Sarauniya expressed satisfaction that the impact of the centre had already started manifesting as some graduands had been impacting their knowledge on the people.

Responding, its Proprietor, Alhaji Abbas Tajudeen, identified abject poverty and lack of job as some of the major causes of the crisis in the society.

“That’s why during our campaign, we promised to create job opportunities for the teeming youths, so that they will become adequately engaged.

“Remember, this centre is one out of over ten established by lawmakers in the state but as I am talking now, it is the only one functioning in the entire state,” he said.

The lawmaker assured that he planned to train 3,000 people this year, besides the 12 different programmes for 2017, adding that one programme would be executed per month.

NAN reports that Tajuddeen later conducted a groundbreaking ceremony for the personal construction of a Secondary School at Kufena ward, with a view to giving people of the area the opportunity to acquire western education in the neighbourhood. (NAN)
