Lawmaker empowers 125 farmers with farm inputs

Ibokun (Osun), Aug. 15, 2017 (NAN) Mr Olatunbosun Oyintiloye (APC-Obokun State Constituency), Osun House of Assembly, says he has empowered  no fewer than 125 farmers  with farm inputs in Obokun Local Government Area of the state.

He said this on Tuesday while distributing the materials in during his empowerment programme in Ibokun.

According to the lawmaker, the distribution of the inputs was to assist farmers to boost food production and assist his constituents of 75 per cent agrarian communities.

He also said the idea behind the distribution of the inputs was in line with the government’s decision to encourage agriculture.

“Though the economy is hard, l resolve to continue to make impact in the lives of the people in line with the mandate given to me.

“These materials are not just being distributed, they were chosen after due consultation with my constituents who reiterated my belief that, the appropriate empowerment material for my people are agricultural inputs.

“I am convinced that these materials, with the various supports from the state government, will assist farmers in this constituency to increase their yields,’’ he said.

Oyintiloye, who is also the Chairman, Committee on Information and Strategy in the House, said farmers who were yet to benefit from the empowerment programmes would benefit from the second phase.

He further said the empowerment programme would be decentralised and rotated across all the 10 wards in his constituency to ensure effective coverage.

Some of the materials distributed were herbicides, cutlasses and farm sprayers among others.

More than 65 widows as well 83 elderly women were also given cash and clothing by the lawmaker. (NAN)
