Osogbo, June 7, 2018 (NAN) Mr Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a member of  the Osun House of Assembly,  has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for declaring June 12 as the new Democracy Day.

Oyintiloye, while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Osogbo, said the June 12  declaration was a bold step by the president to “ rewrite the wrongs  done to the political history of the nation.’’

The lawmaker said that the president’s   decision,  which came 25 years after the freest presidential election ever held in the history of Nigeria,  was heart warming .

Oyintiloye, who is the House Committee Chairman on Information and Strategy, said the declaration of June 12 as the  new Democracy Day  had provided a psychological therapy and soothing effect on the psyche of the nation,  especially among the  people of  the South West Zone.

He said the president had demonstrated beyond every reasonable doubt that truth would always overtake falsehood.

Oyintiloye  (APC-Obokun) said  Buhari’s  magnanimous decision had reassured the civilised world that the president has  respect for popular opinion and remains  sensitive to public sensibilities and consciousness  of history.

“ The lesson here is that leaders should do the right thing at all times because time heals any wound inflicted on humanity,’’ Oyintiloye said.

The lawmaker urged the president to sustain the tempo and ensure that liberty and rule of law remain  the cardinal principles  of his administration.(NAN)
