Lagos, Dec. 20, 2016(NAN) A landlord’s son, Olaitan Otolorin, who allegedly burgled a tenant’s apartment, packed out property and also broke a local save to steal N120,000 was on Tuesday docked in Lagos.
Otolorin, 26, a resident of Ogo-Oluwa Street, Alakuko, Lagos, is being tried for burglary, damage and stealing at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
According to the prosecutor, Insp. George Nwosu, the accused committed the offences on Dec. 4, at his residence.
He said that the accused burgled the apartment of Ganiu Shotade, packed his property outside and rented out the room immediately.
“The accused destroyed the burglary proof and the door of the complainant to gain entrance into his room, he packed out his property and rented the room out to another tenant.
“The complainant came home from the hospital because his wife just delivered, he discovered that his room had been burgled and saw his property outside.
“He also noticed that another tenant had packed into his room,” he said.
Nwosu said that the accused also broke into a local save and stole the N120, 000 which belonged to the complainant’s wife.
“The complainant saw that his wife’s local save had been broken, he was surprised because he was not owing any rent as his rent just became due last Nov. 30.
“The accused had rendered the complainant, wife and their new born baby homeless, without any prior notice,” he said.
The offences contravened Sections 285, 306, 307 and 348 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 307 prescribes a seven-year jail term for convicted offenders, while Section 285 provides for three-year jail term.
The accused pleaded innocence of the offences and was granted bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mr A.A Adesanya, adjourned the case to Jan. 16, for mention. (NAN)
