Land: Man docked for allegedly obtaining N160,000 by false pretext

Lagos, June 11, 2018 (NAN) A 53-year-old man, Aremu Babarinde, who allegedly obtained N160,000 by false pretext of selling a half plot of land was on Monday docked before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The accused, who resides at 10, Okewoye St., Ikose Compound at Otta in Ogun, is being tried for obtaining by false pretext and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu told the court that the offences were committed on Jan. 17 at Ijaiye, a suburb of Lagos.

Ogu said that the accused obtained N160,000 from one Wale Oguntowo on the pretext of selling a half plot of land to him at a remote area in Otta.

The prosecutor said the accused since January avoided Oguntowo, and did not pick his calls.

“The complainant reported the matter to the police and the accused was arrested,” he said.

Ogu said that the offences contravened Sections 280 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr J. A. Adegun granted the accused to a bail of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Adegun adjourned the case until June 26 for mention. (NAN)
