Trespass

Kano, Sept 10, 2018 (NAN) The management of Bayero University Kano has threatened to take legal action against members of the public who encroach on the university’s land.
Prof. Adamu Idris-Tanko, the Chairman, Bayero University Land Implementation Committee and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), gave the warning while addressing a news conference in Kano on Monday.
He said the university found it necessary to issue the warning in view of the persistent encroachment and false claims on the University land and the need to secure the land duly paid for by the institutions.
He explained that the university had followed due process in the acquisition of all the land that served as its permanent site as well as obtained the Right of Occupancy No. KN2604 granted to it by the Kano State Government.
“The University paid compensation for the farm lands and economic trees to the farm owners under phases one, two, three, four, five and seven from the late 70s to early 80s.
He said all issues raised on claiming non-payment of land compensation by some residents of some few households had been resolved in favour of the university because it had provided sufficient evidence of all farmlands acquired.
“The university wishes to use this medium to remind agitators that it had completed payment of compensation to all farm owners in the area.
“Consequently, it holds title to the land devoid of any encumbrance, except the man-made improvement in some areas in phase 5 and 7 which the committee would address.
“So members of the public are hereby notified that whoever deals or transact with any person concerning the land does so at his or her risk as the university shall certainly prosecute trespassers.” (NAN)
