Lagos, Nov. 17, 2017 (NAN) No few than 20 schools will participate in the maiden Track and Field Coaches Association of Nigeria (TAFCAN) Lagos Chapter Schools Relay competition to begin on Nov. 23.
Isaac Ikhabomeh, a board member of the association, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos that the two-day event would hold at the National Stadium, Lagos.
Ikhabomeh said that the competition was aimed at promoting athletics at the grassroots in the state.
“This is a catch them young programme organised by TAFCAN; it is our own way of contributing to the growth of the sport.
“If other chapters of TAFCAN can come up with a similar programme in their states, athletics will get a new lease of life at the grassroots.
“This is our own little way of supporting the Athletics Federation of Nigeria to identify more budding talents,” he said.
He added that participants would be involved in four events – 4x100m boys and girls, 4x200m girls and boys, 4x400m and mixed relays.
The coach told NAN that the body had put everything in place to ensure smooth running of the competition.(NAN)
