Lagos, May 21, 2018 (NAN) The Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) says it is resolved on discovery of budding talents through grassroots development of sports with the sponsorship of swimming competitions among secondary schools.

The LSSC Chairman, Kweku Tandoh made the assertion in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos.

NAN reports that the state government had said at its ministerial briefing that the state would pursue the discovery of talents by encouraging students to effectively combine education with sports.

The LSSC is, however, set to host a three-day Open Swimming Championship for Secondary Schools, to be sponsored by the commission in partnership with Lagos State Swimming Association.

Tandoh, said that the open championships would hold from May 25 to May 27 at the National Stadium Swimming Pool, Surulere in Lagos.

“The championships which is open to students (Boys and Girls) in public and private secondary schools in Lagos State is in two categories; Junior Secondary School (JSS) and the Senior Secondary School (SSS).

“This is being organised in line with one of the core mandates of LSSC to discover and nurture sports talents within the state.

“The outstanding swimmers will be selected to represent the state at the National Youth Games coming up in September.

“Prizes will also be given to all first, second and third place winners and certificates of participation to all participants,’’ he said. (NAN)
