Lagos lawmakers laud constituents’ support

Lagos, Oct. 6, 2017 (NAN) Ms. Omotayo Oduntan-Oyeledun, representing Igando/Ikotun Constituency 2 and Mr Sokunle Hakeem (Oshodi/Isolo 1) in Lagos State have expressed satisfaction at the support and cooperation of their constituents.

 

The representatives said on Friday at their respective constituency stakeholders’ meeting that the support strengthened them to serve better.

 

According to them, the meeting was aimed at receiving more cooperation by giving the constituents an opportunity to make their needs known to the government.

The lawmakers also said that the meeting would  strengthen participatory democracy and promote accountability,

 

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the meeting had the theme: “True Representation and Accountability’’.

 

“The theme is chosen in consonance with the determination and deep commitment of the leadership of the state House of Assembly to ensure that the people have meaningful representation through good laws that guarantee infrastructure development.

 

“It is also to create more jobs, qualitative education for the benefit of all; affordable health care delivery system that ensures the well-being of our people; establishment of a security system that promises safety of lives and property among others,’’ Oduntan-Oyeledun said.

 

She said that the people’s  suggestions, demands and requests at the previous stakeholders meetings  were received with enthusiasm by Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode.

 

The lawmaker gave the assurance that government would continue to use information, suggestions and contributions gathered from such meetings in the formulation and execution of policies to the benefit of all. 

According to Hakeem,  cordial relationship between the legislature and the executive arms,  shared vision and commitment toward the development of the state were responsible for infrastructure development of Lagos.

 

He said that the APC  was determined  to fulfill its manifesto and other campaign promises to transform the state and make life more meaningful to the people.

He hailed the cooperation and support of Lagos residents to the state government,  and urged the people to continue to help to make the state better.

Among the allegations made by the constituents  during the interaction are improper representation by the lawmakers.

 

They also claimed that youths were jobless while the police extorted them regularly.

They added that their  primary health centres were in bad shape while some of their roads were dilapidated.

  They urged  the legislators to look into the issues. 

 

Those who attended the meeting include  royal fathers, representatives of Christian Association of Nigeria, traders and workers of the Lagos State Vehicle Inspection Office. (NAN)
