Lack of interpreter stalls hearing of theft case in Lagos

Ikorodu (Lagos State), March 6, 2017 (NAN) Lack of an interpreter at Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Monday stalled the hearing of a case against Mudairu Muhammed, who allegedly stole aluminum doors worth N480,000.
Muhammed, 20, is facing a charge of stealing.
The Prosecutor, Cpl .Bosede Adegeshin, told the court that the accused could not communicate in English, the official language of the court.
“The statement of the accused was taken with the help of an interpreter at the police station,’’ he said.
Adegeshin urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him get an interpreter.
Magistrate O.O.Olatunji adjourned the case till March 9 for trial.
The accused allegedly stole nine aluminum doors which belonged to Olupede Olufemi on Feb. 28 at Lambo Lasuwon Estate, First Gate in Ikorodu.
Adegeshin said the accused removed the aluminium doors from a building under construction but was arrested by security men in the area. (NAN)
