Lagos, June 5, 2017(NAN) A labourer, Lekan Adetokunbo, 20, was on Monday charged before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing two phones valued at N40,000.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Adetokunbo, who resides at Isale Oja in Agege, near Lagos, is being tried for stealing.
According to the Prosecutor, Insp. George Nwosu, the accused committed the offence on May 27 at Ashade Market in Agege.
Nwosu said that the accused stole two phones belonging to one Isah Sisse.
“The complainant was sleeping and the accused sneaked into his shop and unplugged two phones the complainant was charging.
“The complainant woke up when he heard noise and the accused took to his heels.
“The complainant ran after the accused and was shouting thief! thief! but the accused escaped with the phones.
“After few days of the theft, the complainant saw him and recognised him and he was handed over to the police,” the prosecutor stated.
The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Section 287 prescribes three years jail term for stealing.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.I. Raji, adjourned the case until June 14 for mention. (NAN)
