Lagos, May 18, 2018 (NAN) Ayo Bakare, Head Coach, Comets Basketball Club of Lagos, on Friday said that his team would continue to prove doubters wrong following their victory against Police Batons of Lagos.
Comets came from behind to beat Batons 93-80 in overtime after both teams ended the regular fourth quarter proceedings at 77-77 in the ongoing Kwese Premier Basketball League in Lagos.
Bakare, told the News agency of Nigeria (NAN) that though his team comprised of the young players in the league, he was confident about their ability to compete favourably.
“We have the youngest sets of players in the league, and people tend to write us off because we lost three straight games, but this victory has proved our doubters wrong.
“We have a dynamic team though not so well experienced but with more training and hard work, I am confident of my team’s capabilities,’’ Bakare said.
Police Baton coach, Emeka Oputa, told NAN that his team lost focus at the wrong time and should not have lost to the Comets team.
“We lost our focus at the wrong time, and we paid dearly for it, this is the kind of result that comes up when we don’t play hard enough to win.
“We will surely work on that and hopefully get the right results in our next game,’’ Oputa said.
NAN reports that both team worked their socks off to affirm supremacy as Comet took the first and second quarter, 23-21 and 42-32, while Batons scuttled to win the third quarter, 59-55.
The fourth quarter was an end to end battle as both teams tried hard to force a lead, but ended 77-77, while Comets rose higher to take the game at overtime.
In other games played at the Basketball Hall of the Digital Bridge Institute, Cappa-Oshodi, Hoops and Read Club of Lagos whitewashed Nigeria Customs of Lagos, 87-53.
Anambra Flames also in a business as usual hammered Oluyole Warriors of Ibadan, 73-55 to record their third straight victory in the competition. (NAN)
