Qualification

Malete (Kwara), April 11, 2017 (NAN) Athletes of Kwara State University (KWASU) of Malete in Kwara have qualified for the 2017 Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) Games finals after successfully hosting the Zone ‘B’ Preliminaries.
The athletes qualified in five sports, namely squash, badminton, table tennis, volleyball (female) and javelin (athletics).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 2017 Games will hold at the Federal University of Technology in Makurdi from April 19 to April 30.
Of the 11 universities expected to take part in the NUGA Zone “B’’ Preliminaries, seven turned up for the competition.
These are Federal University of Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) in Ekiti State, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife in Osun, and Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti.
Others are Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) in Kwara, Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba (AAUA) in Ondo State, and Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Osogbo.
The preliminaries featured 13 sports events and they took place between April 5 and April 7.
Speaking on the preliminaries, the KWASU Vice-Chancellor, Abdulrasheed Na’Allah, commended all athletes and their coaches for their performance and demonstration of high level sportsmanship.
“These contributed greatly to the success of the Games,’’ he said.
On his part, the Director of Sports, Prof Mohammed Gambari, congratulated all participating institutions for maintaining discipline throughout.
He also commended the KWASU management and stakeholders for their contributions to the successful hosting of the Games preliminaries.(NAN)
