Ilorin, May 31, 2018 (NAN) The Kwara Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) on Thursday urged the state government to urgently repair damaged facilities at the State Stadium Complex in Ilorin.

Kwara SWAN made the appeal in a communique signed by Jimoh Bashir and issued at the end of its congress on Thursday in Ilorin.

It said the havoc wreaked by a recent rainstorm has opened the stadium to various forms of security risk.

The Congress commended the state government for its commitment to sports promotion and development, and urged it to increase financial support for Kwara United Football Club.

“Government should also approve financial aid for ABS FC, Kwara Ladies FC and the state sports associations,’’ Kwara SWAN added.

It commended Kwara Falcons basketball club for their good run in the ongoing Kwese Basketball Premier League, urging government to assist the team financially for it to sustain the feat.

The Congress also commended the national leadership of SWAN for reviving the lost glory of the sports writing body.

“We also praise the national SWAN leadership for donating a trophy for a competition in remembrance of a former State Chairman, Aliyu Sulaiman,’’ it said.

The association said further that it had resolved unanimously to appoint a former Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Kawu Baraje, as its Patron.

The Congress appealed to the state government to sponsor members of Kwara SWAN to the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia.

The body resolved to organise a Kwara SWAN Awards Night, where excellence in sports development and performance would be rewarded.

It charged members to update their membership, by obtaining SWAN and AIPS identity cards.(NAN)
