Omu-Aran (Kwara),  Feb. 21, 2017 (NAN) The management of the Kwara State College of Education (COED), Oro,  Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara, has decried the low students’ enrolment in the institution for the 2016/2017 academic session.

The Provost of the college, Dr Olowonirejuaro Olayinka, said  on Tuesday in Oro  that the low enrolement had impacted negatively on revenue generation.

He spoke when Mr Kazeem Adekanye, the Chairman, Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) of  Irepodun Local Government Council, visited the institution.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the TIC chairman was accompanied on the visit by the council’s principal officers and other political appointees.

The provost  said the institution had been exploring various avenues  to  ensure  an improvement in  students’ enrolment  which he said stood at a little below 2,000.

Olayinka, however, said that management’s efforts were yielding  results with the approval given to the institution to run degree courses on both full time and part time basis.

The provost said the institution had also not relented in enhancing students’ academic performance by improving on student-management relationship.

“We have since moved from a certificate awarding college to a full fledged  degree awarding institution.

“ We are optimistic that this will go a long way to attract large enrolment of  applicants  to the institution,” he said.

Adekanye, in his remarks,  praised the management of the institution for its dedication and maintenance of quality academic standards.

He said the visit was informed by the need to be abreast of the institution’s developmental efforts, especially in the level of  compliance with government’s  education development strategies.

The council boss pledged the readiness of the committee to assist the institution in its revenue generation drive.

Adekanye also visited the council’s area offices in Oro,  Ajase and Esie as part of strategies to boost and improve the council’s revenue generation drive. (NAN)
