Ilorin, Nov. 6, 2016 (NAN) Kwara State Chapter of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) on Sunday urged all stakeholders to support farmers to break even and make profit.
An ex officio of the association, Daniel Ajiboye told the News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN ) that if Nigerian farmers continue in using manual implements, they would not meet up to the required standard.
He said tiers of government have a role to play if agriculture was to be given apt attention as the Federal government was canvassing.
”If we truly want to replace oil with agriculture as we are saying, all tiers of government need to support farmers because we really need to dump the crude ways of doing things.
”The local government have to provide land for the farmers through the traditional rulers while the state government have to provide machineries like planters, harvesters and tractors.
”The Federal Government should support the state government to provide these machineries and fund because not all state governments are buoyant enough,” Ajiboye said.
He added that farmers should be supported in kind and not in cash to woo the youths to embrace farming.
According to him, we need to help our youth to embrace agriculture, reduce unemployment and youth restiveness. (NAN)
