Knife-point robbery: Commercial bus driver, 21, arraigned, gets N200,000 bail

Lagos, July 6, 2017 (NAN) A commercial bus driver, 28-year-old Sunday Obodozie, who allegedly robbed a man of valuables worth N125,000 at knife-point,  on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

Obodozie, who resides at No. 3, Ademola Abiola St., Alakuko, a Lagos suburb, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery.

The accused, however, denied the charge.

The prosecutor, Insp. Simeon Imhonwa, told the court that Obodozie robbed a man, Ibrahim Abubakar, of his property on June 15 at 1.30 a.m. at Shaiba Street, Agege, Lagos.

He alleged that the accused conspired with others still at large and robbed the complainant of two mobile phones, one plasma TV and N25,000, all valued at N125, 000.

Imhonwa said the accused and others, who were armed with a knife, broken bottles and other dangerous weapons, broke into the complainant’s room and robbed him.

“The accused was was later apprehended by security guards, who handed him over to the police.”

The offences contravened Sections 297 and 299 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, granted the accused N200,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

Osunsanmi said the sureties must be gainfully employed with evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government and adjourned the case until Aug. 31 for mention. (NAN)
