Katsina, June 14, 2017 (NAN) The Katsina House of Assembly, has approved the State Government’s request to secure N6.8 billion loan from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for the purchase of fertilizer.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Alhaji Abubakar Yahaya, read the governor’s letter to the lawmakers in Katsina on Wednesday at its plenary.

Yahaya said that Gov. Aminu Masari, explained that the loan was meant for the purchase of fertilizer for the 2017 wet season farming.

He said the governor added that the loan, to be secured under the CBN’s Commercial Agriculture Credit Scheme, would enable the State Government purchase enough fertilizer to be sold to farmers at a subsidized rate.

After reading the letter, the lawmakers unanimously granted the loan request for the development of agriculture, which was the mainstay of the state economy.

The speaker, however, directed the clerk of the House to forward the resolution to the executive arm for further action.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that farmers in most parts of the state had planted their crops following frequent rainfalls.

This year, there can be bumper harvest if the State Government would complement the efforts of the Federal Government’s Growth Enhancement Support (GES) in the distribution of farm inputs. (NAN)
