Daura (Katsina State) June 13, 2018(NAN) The wife of the Katsina State governor, Hajiya Zakiya Masari on Wednesday, called for urgent action to tackle the menace of drug abuse among youths and women.
Speaking during the closing of the Annual Ramadan sermon organised by a Daura-based religious association, Haiatul Ummahatul Musilimatu Lilwaazi Walirshan in (HAIA) in Daura metropolis, Masari, said the menace, if not tackled could “ruin” the future of the younger generation.
Represented by Dr Badiyya Mashi, Commissioner for Women Affairs, she stressed the need for collaboration by stakeholders to tackle the problem.
Masari who described the menace of drug abuse among women as “equally worrisome”.
“The problem of drug addiction would ruin our youths and make them vulnerable, thereby jeopardising the future generation`,” she said.
The wife of the governor attributed the rampant cases of crimes to drug abuse and addiction.
Masari noted that the state government had taken steps to tackle the menace and would continue to collaborate with partners and other stakeholders to bring an end to drug addiction.
She reaffirmed the commitment of the state government toward contributing positively to the welfare of the people.
The governor’s wife, said the state government, in the last three years empowered 25,000 women in various skills that included goat farming, weaving, tailoring and jelly making.
She also said that 10,000 youths were trained in various vocational skills/
She called on women to embrace child spacing and other related family planning programs, stressing a spaced family was a healthy family. (NAN)
