Kano State Govt. targets N10bn monthly IGR in 2018

Kano, March 6, 2017 (NAN) The Kano State Government says it is targeting N10 billion monthly as Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in 2018.
The state Commissioner of Finance, Prof. Kabiru Dandago stated this at the official presentation of letters of appointment to 765 newly recruited staff of the state Internal revenue Service (KIRS) on Monday in Kano.
He said the decision to recruit the revenue staff was borne out of the state government’s effort to boost its revenue generation with a view to providing the much needed infrastructural development in the state.
“We hope to start collecting N10 billion monthly as revenue in 2018, hence the government’s decision to recruit qualified personnel for efficective service delivery.
He said with recruitment of these revenue officers and the repositioning of the agency, the state government would be able to meet its target.
He said the state government would also generate N5 billion monthly before the end of this year.
“We realised that the state internal revenue service requires qualified personnel to enable it to function effectively.
“Relevant apptitude test was conducted to get the best candidates,”he said.
He, however, warned the newly recruited staff to avoid any malpractice as anyone found wanting would be shown the way out.
“We will not tolerate any sharp practices because we recruit you to improve the state revenue base to enable Kano state sustain itself economically.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the state internal revenue service, Alhaji Sani Abdulkadir-Dambo urged the newly recruited staff to be dedicated and avoid any act capable of denting their image and that of the agency.
He commended the state government for the approval it granted to the agency in order to ensure professionalism.
