Kano State Govt. recruits 1,000 sanitation‎ vanguards–Ganduje

Kano, Aug.‎ 22, 2017 (NAN) The Kano State Government says it has recruited 1,000 youths as sanitation vanguards as part of effort to improve cleanliness among the populace in the state.

Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje disclosed this in Kano on Tuesday during the presentation of letters of appointment to the beneficiaries at the Government House.‎

He said that the youth were employed to empower them economically and give them a space in the state government’s development drive.

‘‘The gesture is part of the efforts of our administration to ensure healthy, safe and clean environment as well as to create employment opportunities for the teeming unemployed youths,’’ he said.

He said that the work schedule of the sanitation vanguards include inspection of abattoirs, hotels, restaurants, markets and event centres in the state.‎

‎To underscore the government’s seriousness about good sanitation, the governor revealed that his administration had established mobile courts to prosecute defaulters of the state’s environmental laws.‎

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor distributed anti malaria drugs, test kits and nets to 748 heath facilities in the state.‎
‎

NAN also reports that Ganduje‎ distributed 220 tricycles to physically-challenged persons and letters of appointment to 2,458 healthcare workers employed by the state government.

The governor also distributed 11 motorised mosquito control fumigation machines to eight local governments in Kano metropolis. (NAN)
