Kano, Dec. 19, 2016 (NAN) Residents in Kano, Kano State, have marked this year’s Eid-el Maulud in style to celebrate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the residents, mostly in the metropolis of Kano Municipal, Dala, Nasarawa, Fagge, Tarauni, Ungoggo, Kumbotso and Dawakin Tofa, Local Government Areas of the state, held a peaceful march along major streets praising the life of the prophet.

The residents, who celebrated the event annually, were mostly dressed in new attires and exchanged lots of gifts to their neighbours to mark the day.

Sheikh Saminu Maihula, an Islamic scholar, told NAN that Prophet Muhammad brought Islam so Muslims must celebrate him.

Maihula said: “Although there are mixed feelings on celebrating the day. My sect, the Tijjaniyyya, believe in celebrating our Prophet.

“On a day like this every year, we conduct special prayers as well as organise holy sittings in mosques and Islamic schools to celebrate.”

According to him, he did the celebration despite the current economic challenges and prayed for long life to witness more of such celebrations.

The scholar admonished Muslims on peaceful coexistence with fellow Muslims belonging to other sects and with people of other faiths. (NAN)
