Kano, March 6,2017 (NAN) The Kano State Commissioner for Environment, Dr Ali Makoda, said the state government would soon embark on massive rehabilitation of dams and erosion control in all the local governments affected by erosion.
Makoda made this known at the inauguration of the Kano State Management Unit of the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project.
He said that the project was an outcome of collaboration between the state government and the World Bank in which a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in 2015.
The Coordinator of the project in the state, Alhaji Musa Shu’aibu, said the unit would take charge of activities relating to irrigation farming, erosion control, rehabilitation and utilisation of dams.
Shu’aibu expressed satisfaction with the calibre of members of staff in the unit, saying that the state would soon witness impact of the project.(NAN)
