Kano, Oct. 9, 2017(NAN) Kano State Government on Monday, reiterated commitment to initiate more youth and women empowerment programmes to fight unemployment and poverty in the state.
Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje said this when participants of course 26 of the National Defence College, Abuja on Geo-Strategic Study tour of Kano State, paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Kano.
Speaking on the theme of the Geo-Strategic Tour, “Youth Empowerment and National Security’’, Ganduje said, “most of our programmes are geared toward youths and women empowerment.”
The governor said the state government would continue to initiate more youth empowerment programmes in order to more youths in different skills to also reduce social vices.
“Government has done this in the past and is still doing its best to reduce the rate of unemployment, youths’ restiveness, poverty.
‘’That is why the government has empowered thousands of youths in the state,’’ he said.
Ganduje also said the state government was building Ultra-modern Youth Acquisition Centre meant to to train more youths in the state.
He said all hands must be on deck to improve the living standard of youths, adding that youths were the pillars of every society.
The governor advised, however, youths not to succumb to the lure to be used for violence, adding that they should shun criminal activities to earn the trust of the people.
He commended the participants for choosing Kanob for the visit.
The leader of the team, Commodore Ayobanjo Adeseye, said the team’s pre visit study to the state showed that Kano state had comparative advantages in many sectors over other states under study.
He also said the team six participants of the course 26 chose Kano because of its population and leadership qualities of the governor.
Ayobanjo said that course 26 members were also in the state for geo-strategic study tour.
He said that this year’s theme,” Youth Empowerment and National Security” was also on the factors attracted members of the team to vist the state.
The team leader urged the state government to continue to empower youths to reduce unemployment, poverty and other vices in the state.
He commended the Governor for his efforts in creating jobs for women and youths in the state. (NAN)
