Kano Govt. inaugurates 13-man committee on Agricultural Development Scheme

Kano, May 8, 2018 (NAN)The Kano State Government on Tuesday inaugurated a 13-man committee of State Project Monitoring Team on Accelerated Agricultural Development Scheme.

Inaugurating the committee in Kano, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji explained that the scheme, which was initiated by the Federal Government, was aimed at diversifying the economy and enhance food security.

He said the scheme was also intended to revolutionise agricultural production with a view to balancing economic growth and sustained income for the citizens.

He enumerated some of the achievements recorded in the area of agricultural development to include, recruitment of 700 extension agents by the state Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KNARDA).

Others are overview of the state’s animal health sector through regular vaccination of livestock as well as credit facilities to farmers in the state.

The SSG urged the committee members to work as a team for the realization of the noble objectives of the programme in the state and the country in general.

In his remarks, the chairman of the committee, Alhaji Nasir Gawuna assured the government of their total commitment toward the success of the scheme.

The committee has Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Nasir Gawuna as chairman, while the Head of Finance in Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Kano, Alhaji Abdulkadir Ahmed will serve as secretary of the committee.

Other members are, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Alhaji Aminu Garba, Representative of Commodities Association, Malam Faruk Rabiu, Director-General, Youth, Alhaji Ado Abba Tudun Wada and a Director, Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Alhaji Shehu Adamu.

Members also included, representatives National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Kano, the State Ministry of Finance and one representative each from the three Kano Senatorial Zones (NAN)
