Kaduna, March 30, 2017(NAN)The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) on Thursday in a one-day workshop held in Kaduna sensitised about 100 manufacturing companies on environmental management standards.

Dr Justine Nicks, Director Planning Research and Statistics of SON, said the essence of the worship was to sensitise the stakeholders on the need to have a structured environment management system.

Nicks added that the exercise was to ensure that people operate businesses in a sustainable manner, so that future generations would benefit from the kind of environment they would inherit.

He noted that SON wanted to sensitise the people to be aware of the effect of their activities on the environment.

“We would assist those of them that want to have structured environment system that is in compliance with international standards,’’he said.

Nicks said standards were suitable for all organisations regardless of the nature of their businesses, products and processes.

He said human beings have direct intersection with the environment and had to be conscious of how their interactions would make the environment unsafe and unsustainable.

Earlier, Dauda Yakubu, Regional Coordinator, North West of SON, said the workshop would assist industries and corporate bodies to go into environmental management policy for better environment.

Yakubu said a good environmental policy would help to sustain the development of the country.

Also, SON Coordinator in Kaduna State, Danlami Datti, said there was need to ensure standard in the production system by all manufacturers.

According to Datti, the workshop would allow the manufacturers to key into global efforts to save the environment for the future generations. (NAN)
