Abuja, July 24, 2017 (NAN) The President, Nigeria Judo Federation (NJF), Timothy Nsirim, has appealed to the Federal Government to give National Sports Federations take-off grants to enable them function adequately.
Nsirim told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja that the federations needed money to commence their activities.
NAN reports that the president was reacting to the call by the Minister of Youths and Sports, Solomon Dalung that sports federation should source for sponsors for their programmes.
“I have been making this appeal over time, appealing to individuals, multinational and corporate organisations to come to the aid sports growth but it has not been easy.
“So, I am appealing to the minister to think twice, let him give us take-off grants to assist the federations so that we will use it to check our capacity.
“Some of the federations don’t have money and the board members can only do little. For us to set up marketing committee, we need grant.
“The minister should give us grants and we will work for him and for Nigeria,’’ he said.
Nsirim thanked the minister for inaugurating the boards, adding that they needed to go back to the drawing board to see how to rebrand judo.
“We need to rebrand Judo, we will have our first inaugural board meeting to take proactive decisions that will make judo to be the best combat sport in Nigeria,’’ he said. (NAN)
