Abuja, June 9, 2017 (NAN) Bashir Bassey, the national judo coach, says adequate preparations will enable Nigerian athletes win medals at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games in Nassau, Bahamas.

Bassey told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja this was why four judokas had been invited for a six-week camping programme ahead of the Games.

NAN reports that the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games is slated for Nassau from July 19 to July 23.

Bassey said that the camp, which began on Monday in Abuja, would focus on building the athletes’ confidence.

“We are going to update the athletes on modern rules, and train them on how to guard against being unnecessarily penalised.

“We will also try to polish their technical skills towards the competition,’’ the coach said.

Bassey said the first week of the camping would focus on the physical conditioning of the athletes, while the rest of the camping would be used to build the athletes’ techniques.(NAN)
