Kano, April 18, 2018 (NAN) The nationwide strike action declared by the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU), has slowed down activities at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

NAN checks around the hospital showed that although the doctors have doubled efforts to cover up for the strike action, yet there were sectors directly affected by the strike.

At the Emergency Paediatrics Unit and the General Emergency Units of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, doctors were spotted at the laboratories doing the job and making consultations simultaneously.

One of the medical doctors, Dr Muhammed Abdullahi, told NAN correspondent that some medical doctors who have knowlegde of the laboratory assisted when there were issues on lab.

Some of the in-patients who spoke to NAN said the strike had directly affected them as they had to seek for services outside the hospital.

A patient’s relation, Malama Adama Usman, said that the hospital pharmacy was shut forcing patients to go out for drugs.

Another patient’s relative, Muhammad Gaddafi, also complained of the difficulties faced by the patients because of the strike.

They appealed to the striking workers and the Federal Government to hasten efforts at resolving the issues for the benefit of the patients.

NAN reports that the Joint Health Sector Union had embarked on an indefinite strike action at 12 midnight of Tuesday April 17 to press home their demands from the government. (NAN)
