Jobseeker docked over alleged burglary, theft of N892,000 property

Lagos, July 27, 2017 (NAN) A 25-year-old job seeker, Abeeb Alabi, was on Thursday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court over a case of burglary and stealing.

The accused, who resides in Iyanakan area of Ikorodu, Lagos, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and burglary.

Alabi is alleged to have broken into the apartment of one Nwaokocha Fidelis through the sitting room window to steal valuables worth N892, 000.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Donjor Perezi, told the court that the accused committed the offences on April 29 at about 15.50 p.m.

Perezi alleged that the accused, with others now at large, broke into the apartment of the complainant and stole two laptops, wristwatches, one Panasonic camera, an Iphone and cash sum of N191, 000.

“The accused entered the house through the window, removed the burglar proof and made away with the stolen items all valued at N892, 000.

“The accused was apprehended by the police at Ijede area of Ikorodu during a stop and search operation.

“ He was arrested when he could not give satisfactory explanation about property found in his possession,’’ he said.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene the provisions of Sections 287, 307 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

Alabi pleaded not guilty.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Section 287 prescribes a three-year jail term for stealing, while Section 307 stipulates seven years imprisonment for burglary.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Layinka, admitted the accused to bail of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Layinka adjourned further hearing in the case until Aug. 2. (NAN)
