Jobless man in court for allegedly stealing 2 phones, laptop

Lagos, May 25, 2018 (NAN) A 42-year-old unemployed man, Bolaji Bamiro, who allegedly stole two mobile phones and a laptop worth 255,000, was on Friday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Bamiro, who resides at 22, Adebowale St., Ikosi in Ketu area of Lagos, is facing a charge  of stealing.

The accused, however, entered a plead of `not guilty’.

But the Prosecutor, Sgt. Innocent Odugbo insisted that the accused committed the offence on May 16 at 2, Dipo Abey St., Ojodu, Lagos.

Odugbo said the accused stole the phones and a laptop from a house he had visited under the guise of looking for “the madam of the house”.

“The accused met a lady who told him the madam had gone to work and he requested for a pen and paper to enable him to leave a note for her.

“As he was writing the note, he asked the lady to help him check outside if the motorcycle that brought him was still there.

“When she returned, the accused had stolen the items and escaped through another exit.

“She raised alarm, and with the help of some neighbours the accused was apprehended and were handed over to the police with the stolen items recovered from him,” he said.

The offence contravened Section  285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs S. K. Matepo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until June 11. (NAN)
