Housebreaking

Lagos, March 30, 2017 (NAN) A 25-year-old unemployed, Ahmadu Usman, who allegedly broke into a house to steal, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
Usman, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of housebreaking and intent to commit felony.
According to the Prosecutor, Sgt. Ehimegbe Rosemary, the accused committed the offences on March 14 at Kara Abattoir in Oko-Oba area of Agege, Lagos.
He said the accused broke into the apartment of the complainant, Mr Umar Abubakar, to steal his belongings.
Among the weapons found on the accused are iron rods, cuttlasses and three lighters which he used to damage the door of the house, he told the court.
“The complainant raised alarm and the accused was immediately apprehended and handed over to the police.”
The offences contravened Sections 307 and 337 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused may be jailed seven years if found guilty, according to Section 307.
The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until April 11 for mention. (NAN)
