Lagos, June 14, 2017 (NAN) A 32-year-old job applicant, Emeka Okafor, who allegedly robbed N300,000 and 40,000 dollars  (about N16.7 million) with arms, on Wednesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on a two-count charge.

Okafor, who resides on Gbetu Street, Awoyaya, Ajah, Lagos, is facing counts of conspiracy and armed robbery.

He, however, denied the charge.

The prosecutor, Insp. Simeon Imhonwa, told the court that Okafor robbed Mr Okechukwu Azuborgwu of the sums on April 12 at 3.00p.m. at No. 19, Gbajumo St., off Mandillas, Lagos Island.

He said that the accused and others still at large  broke into Azuborgwu’s shop, held the salesgirls hostage at gunpoint, went to the safe and took the money.

“Okafor was apprehended by the police in his escape bid while his two accomplices fled in an unmarked motorcycle while shooting sporadically to scare people away,’’ he alleged.

He submitted that the offences contravened Sections 409 and 297 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (revised).

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody pending the advice of the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

Osunsanmi adjourned the case until July 10 for mention. (NAN)
