Jos, Dec. 6, 2016 (NAN) Mathias Hata, the General Manager, Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB), has advised residents to report poultry farmers operating within residential areas in the state to relevant authorities.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Jos that it was wrong to locate poultry farms in residential areas as the practice posed health hazards to the people living around such areas.
Hata said that many of the residents had come to report the huge discomfort they faced due to poultry production in their neighbourhood.
‘’We don’t take cases like these lightly because it involves lives, officials are sent to inspect the areas and necessary actions are taken immediately,’’ he said.
Hata said the dust particles from poultries could make it hard for people to breath and people who were asthmatic could not live in such places.
‘’The government frowns at this, but we need affected people to report cases so that we can inspect and ask owners of such poultry farms to move out or face the law, ‘’ he said.
He further advised residents to bring their complaints to the board, saying that they would not only help their neighbours, but also help the farmer who resides with the birds. (NAN)
