Dutse, Feb. 17, 2017 (NAN) The Jigawa Sports Council, has registered no fewer than 140 local football associations in the state.
The Sports Director in the state, Alhaji Gambo Labbo, made this disclosure to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Friday.
Labbo said that the associations were registered by the council in 21 months across the 27 Local Government Areas of the state.
He explained that the council registered them in order to promote football development at the grassroots.
The director said the associations were registered in case of inter-local governments football competitions that would lead to the discovery of talents at the grassroots.
According to him, the council registered them to assist the State Government in establishing its own football league to enhance the development of football in the state.
Labbo, who identified grassroots competitions as the sole avenue for talent discovery, said that it would also help to take a large number of youths off the streets and engage them productively.
He lauded the state Command of the Nigerian Peace Corps (NPC), for organising a football competition among local teams in the state.
The director said that the gesture would go a long way to promote peace, unity and youth development in the state. (NAN)
