Vaccination

Dutse, Feb. 22, 2017 (NAN) The Jigawa Government on Wednesday said it would vaccinate 501,000 animals across the state during the 2017 animal vaccination exercise.
Alhaji Wada’u Sulaiman, the Spokesperson, Jigawa Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse.
Sulaiman said that 400,000 cattle, 100,000 goats and sheep and 1000 dogs were targeted for the exercise.
He explained that the cattle would be vaccinated against Contagious Bovine Pleuro Pneumonia (CBPP), sheep and goats against Peste de Petites Prominante (PPR), while dogs would be vaccinated against Rabies.
The spokesperson said that some poultry animals would also be vaccinated against Newcastle Disease (NCD).
According to him, the state government has provided enough doses of vaccines for smooth conduct of the exercise that is scheduled to commence on March 1.
Sulaiman added that a stakeholder meeting, chaired by the ministry’s acting Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Adamu Abdullahi, was conducted with leaders of the state chapter of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), ahead of the exercise.
Other stakeholders in attendance, were representative of the state Ministry for Local Government Affairs, Director Veterinary Services, Director of Livestock Services, and their deputies.
He said the meeting was to ensure participation by animal owners, particularly herdsmen for the successful conduct of the exercise. (NAN)
